Children are bundles of joy from the first day they arrive in your life. If a parent is being honest, they will also tell you they can be expensive and downright stressful! Convertible Car Seats are an option meant to grow with your little one, starting from the rear-facing position for babies and can be switched to a front-facing position for older children (once they reach the weight or height specified for each maker).

With multiple features, we carry a wide selection of top-rated convertible car seats from premium brands to cater to your specific needs. Are you looking for an option that is made to grow? Then you're going to love the Clek Foonf or perhaps looking for an All-in-One seat that will fit your child from birth to 10 years. Whether you are looking for an option for a newborn or toddler, we have you covered with a range of top brands. Choose from such trusted names as Maxi-CosiUppababyCybex, Chicco, Nuna, and more for this important need.

Want to know what our favorite and bestselling convertible car seats are this year? Check them out here!

What is a Convertible Car Seat?

A convertible car seat can be installed rear-facing as well as forward-facing in a vehicle. This is a natural second-stage solution as infants grow out of the infant car seat but need to remain rear-facing due to safety or state law.

What is a Convertible Car Seat vs. Infant Car Seat?

Most convertible car seats we carry at Kidsland will work from 5lbs to at least 50lbs so they can be used as a first-stage car seat if desired.  The main differences between a convertible car seat and an infant car seat are:

  1. convertible car seats are not meant to be portable like an infant car seat with carry handles and cannot be attached to a chassis or strollers
  2. Infant car seats can ONLY be installed in vehicles rear-facing
  3.  convertible car seats have a higher maximum weight capacity as it is used until toddler ages facing forward in the car.

Do convertible car seats have an expiration date?

The expiration of the car seat will be clearly marked on the unit base. If no manufacture date is present, you can safely assume expiration is 7 years from the date of manufacture unless otherwise reported by the brand.

How long can my child use a convertible car seat?

Most convertible car seats can be used to 50 pounds but each seat is different. Our favorite car seats like the Nuna Rava and Maxi Cosi Pria 85 can be used from 65lbs to 85lbs.  For an even longer-lasting toddler seat, look for the Nuna Exec and Maxi Cosi Magellan which are All-in-One seats and can be used as a no-harness booster seat.

Will a convertible car seat fit in my car?

As a toddler car seat, Convertibles are wider and longer than infant car seats.  If space is an issue, consider installing the car seat in the middle of the back row. This is still a safe solution using LATCH or seatbelt installation.
